Crock Pot Pulled Pork (Texas Style)
Description
Crock Pot Pulled Pork (Texas Style) uses a 6-pound pork shoulder roast placed in a slow cooker and covered with a mixture of BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, chicken stock, light brown sugar, spicy brown mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chipotle chili powder, smoked paprika, onion and garlic powders, and dried thyme. The pork cooks on low heat for about 10 hours until it is fall-apart tender.
Once cooked, the pork is removed from the slow cooker and shredded with forks. Some of the cooking liquid is mixed back into the shredded pork to keep it moist and flavorful. This method produces meat with a blend of smoky, sweet, and tangy notes typical of Texas-style barbecue. The meat can be served on rolls and pairs well with coleslaw, making a filling meal or sandwich.
Because the slow cooker concentrates flavors and tenderizes the pork thoroughly, this recipe requires minimal hands-on time, relying on the prolonged low-temperature cooking to develop texture and taste. Adjust seasoning as needed depending on ingredients like sodium content in the chicken stock used.
