Crockpot Ham Recipe
Description
The Crockpot Ham Recipe focuses on reheating a spiral-cut, bone-in ham by placing it in a crockpot with chicken broth and brown sugar. The broth prevents drying, while the brown sugar adds a subtle sweetness to complement the ham's saltiness. Cooking on a low setting for around six hours allows the ham to heat thoroughly, with the internal temperature reaching 165 degrees F for safe serving. The ham's spiral cut allows for easy trimming if fitting into the crockpot is challenging.
Because the ham is pre-cooked, the recipe emphasizes warming gently rather than cooking from raw. The option to baste or brush on a glaze during cooking adds a custom touch but is not required. This method supports hands-off preparation, good for occasions where the ham can reheat as other meal components are arranged.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup chicken broth or water
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 10 pound ham spiral cut bone in
Instructions
- Add chicken broth and brown sugar to the bottom of a cold crockpot.
- Unwrap ham and place face down onto the sugar. If your ham is too large for your crockpot like mine was, simply fit it into your crockpot as best as you can, trimming a little if necessary.
- Cover and cook on low 6 hours or until hot all the way through and internal temperature reads 165 degrees F. Feel free to baste and brush on any desired glaze.
Notes
- Since spiral ham is already cooked, this method gently reheats it until hot throughout.
- Trim the ham if it does not fit comfortably in your crockpot to ensure even heating.
- Use a meat thermometer to confirm the ham reaches an internal temperature of 165°F before serving.
- Basting or glazing during cooking can add extra flavor and moisture if desired.
