Crockpot Lava Cake
Description
This recipe combines a chocolate fudge cake mix blended with milk, vegetable oil, and eggs, poured into a greased slow cooker. An unmixed layer of instant chocolate pudding blended with milk is poured on top, followed by a sprinkling of milk chocolate chips. The slow cooker bakes the dessert on high heat for two and a half hours without stirring, allowing the top and edges to set while the center stays gooey and molten.
The finished lava cake has a thick, cakey outer layer contrasting with a rich, flowing center. Serving it slightly warm accentuates the gooey texture. This dessert serves around twelve and is often enjoyed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to balance the dense chocolate.
The recipe encourages flexibility in flavors by substituting different cake mix and pudding flavors to vary the dessert. Its slow-cooking method provides a unique take on lava cake without the need for an oven.
Ingredients
Ingredients for the Chocolate Lava Crockpot Cake:
- 1 chocolate fudge cake mix I used Betty crocker, Super Moist brand, box
- 1 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 egg
Ingredients for the lava topping:
- 1 chocolate pudding mix 4 oz, instant, box
- 2 cups milk
- 1 milk chocolate chips 12 oz, bag
Instructions
- Beat together cake mix, oil, eggs, and milk with an electric mixer for a few minutes until batter is smooth.
- Spray slow cooker with nonstick spray so the cake won’t stick.
- Pour cake mixture into the slow cooker and smooth over the bottom.
- In a mixing bowl, beat together the 2 cups milk and pudding and pour over the top. Do not stir.
- Then sprinkle chocolate chips over top without stirring.
- Cover and cook on high for 2 and 1/2 hours.
- You’ll know when it is done when the outsides and top set up like a sponge- the middle will be gooey. Serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.
- Serves 12. Enjoy!
Notes
- Flavor variations can be made by swapping the chocolate cake mix and pudding mix with other preferred varieties.
- Serving this cake warm, possibly with vanilla ice cream, enhances the molten texture experience.
