Crockpot Sesame Chicken Recipe
Description
The Crockpot Sesame Chicken Recipe features bite-sized chicken breasts simmered over several hours in a rich sauce made with soy sauce, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, ketchup, honey, brown sugar, garlic powder, and crushed chili pepper. The slow cooker tenderizes the chicken and melds the flavors. After cooking, cornstarch slurry is added to thicken the sauce, creating a shiny glaze that clings to the chicken pieces.
The balance of sweet, savory, and subtle heat defines the sauce's profile, complemented by the toasted nutty aroma from sesame oil and optional sesame seed garnish. This dish is suitable to serve with rice or steamed vegetables, making a full meal.
Notes include storing leftovers refrigerated for up to three days or freezing for three months. Even cooking is ensured by cutting chicken into uniform pieces. Heat levels can be customized by adjusting the chili flakes. The slow cooker can keep the dish warm for up to two hours before serving without overcooking the chicken.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken breast
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- ½ cup honey
- ½ cup dark brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili pepper crushed
- 3 tablespoons corn starch
Optional toppings:
- sesame seeds
Instructions
- Cut chicken breasts into bite sized pieces then place in the slow cooker.
- Combine soy sauce, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, ketchup, honey, dark brown sugar, garlic powder, crushed red chili pepper in a bowl and stir to combine.
- Pour mixture over chicken, add the lid then set the slow cooker on HIGH for 3 hours.
- Once chicken is cooked, keep the Crockpot on HIGH. Whisk corn starch into ¼ cup of water, then stir into the chicken mixture. Let it continue to cook until the sauce thickens, about 10 minutes.

Notes
- Store the cooked sesame chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
- Cut chicken breast into uniform bite-sized pieces to ensure even cooking throughout the slow cook.
- Adjust spiciness by adding more or less crushed red chili pepper or cayenne according to taste preferences.
- The Crockpot can keep the chicken warm for up to 2 hours before serving without drying it out.
