Crockpot Swedish Meatballs
Description
Crockpot Swedish Meatballs combines frozen pre-cooked meatballs with a creamy mushroom-based sauce made from canned cream of mushroom and golden mushroom soups, beef broth, and brown gravy mix. The ingredients are whisked together and poured over the meatballs in the slow cooker, then cooked on low for six hours, allowing the meatballs to absorb the rich mushroom flavors while becoming tender without drying out.
The slow cooker method requires no browning of frozen meatballs, simplifying the process. For a thicker, creamier sauce, sour cream can be added at the end of cooking and stirred in thoroughly. This classic comfort dish is commonly served over egg noodles, which soak up the creamy mushroom sauce and complement the meatballs.
The recipe is straightforward, requiring minimal hands-on time, and the use of soups and gravy mix forms a savory and hearty sauce. The texture comes from tender meatballs softened in the slow cooker and the smooth, flavorful sauce. This recipe works well for a family meal where the slow cooker can be left unattended.
If using homemade meatballs, browning them before adding to the slow cooker is advised to prevent them from falling apart during the long cook time. Otherwise, frozen meatballs are ready to go as-is, making this recipe practical and approachable.
