Crunchy Twisted Cookies

Crunchy Twisted Cookies are small, orange-zested dough ropes twisted and baked until lightly golden. The dough contains flour, sugar, butter, orange zest, egg yolk, and a pinch of salt, producing a crisp texture with a citrus aroma. The dough can be decorated with optional sugar sprinkle, candied fruit, nuts, or chocolate chips before baking.

Description

The cookie dough is prepared by mixing flour, sugar, softened butter, orange zest, egg yolk, and salt, first on low speed then medium to develop dough texture. The dough is rolled into small six-inch ropes, twisted, and placed on parchment-lined baking sheets. Egg white is brushed over the twists to help decorations like sugar, nuts, chocolate chips, or dried fruit adhere.

Baked at 350°F for approximately 10-12 minutes, the cookie twists develop a lightly golden, crunchy exterior with a subtle citrus flavor from the orange zest. The texture remains crisp and pairs well with tea or coffee.

Flavor variations can be made by substituting the orange zest with lemon, lime, vanilla, or almond extract, adjusting to taste. The recipe is versatile and allows for decorative toppings to personalize the cookies.
