Cucumber Agua Fresca

Cucumber Agua Fresca blends chopped cucumber, lime juice, sugar, and a pinch of salt with water, then is strained to create a refreshing, mildly sweet beverage. Adjustments to lime, salt, or sugar can tailor the flavor, and optional herbs or ingredients can add variety.

Description

This Cucumber Agua Fresca combines roughly chopped cucumbers with lime juice, sugar, and a pinch of salt, all blended together and diluted with water. The mixture is then strained to remove pulp, resulting in a smooth, light, and refreshing drink with subtle sweetness and a bright citrus note. The fresh cucumber imparts a clean, cooling flavor, balanced by the tartness of lime and sweetness of sugar.

The recipe emphasizes tasting and adjusting seasoning as needed, reflecting the natural variation in cucumber flavors and personal preference for sweetness or acidity. Optionally, this drink can be enhanced with fresh herbs like mint or cilantro, or flavored with grated ginger or lemongrass for an herbal or Southeast Asian influence. Agave syrup may substitute sugar, and a splash of tequila is suggested for an adult variation. Lime zest is also noted as a flavor enhancer.

Serving over ice helps to keep the beverage cold and refreshing, making it suitable for warm weather or as a light accompaniment to meals.
