Cumin Lamb Skewers

Cumin Lamb Skewers involve marinating cubed lamb shoulder in a bold spice blend including ground cumin, chili powder, and garlic powder. The lamb is threaded onto skewers and grilled until cooked through with a slightly charred exterior. An optional dusting of additional spices enhances the aromatic flavor. The result is tender, savory lamb pieces with a smoky spiced crust.

Description

The Cumin Lamb Skewers recipe calls for boneless lamb shoulder cut into uniform one-inch cubes to ensure even grilling. These are marinated in a mixture of peanut oil, ground cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, and optional Szechuan peppercorns for an intensely spiced, fragrant meat. After marinating for at least two hours or overnight, the cubes are threaded onto skewers spaced apart to allow heat circulation and grilled over high heat for about 3 to 4 minutes per side until fully cooked.

The high heat grilling develops a charred exterior that locks in moisture, giving the lamb a juicy texture balanced by the warm, slightly spicy spice rub. The optional addition of more ground cumin and chili powder dusted on top before serving adds additional layers of flavor. These skewers are commonly enjoyed plain or with a side salad or beer.

Cutting the lamb into even pieces guarantees uniform cooking, and allowing the meat to rest briefly after grilling helps redistribute juices for tenderness. Marinating for longer times deepens the flavor penetration. Leaving space on the skewers ensures the lamb chars properly instead of steaming.

  • chili powder dust on lamb skewers before serving, (optional, mix

Spice Marinade:

  • 1/3 cup peanut oil or cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons cumin ground
  • 2/3 tablespoons chili powder

  • 2/3 teaspoons salt

Notes

  • Cut lamb into even cubes to promote even cooking and proper charring.
  • Marinate the lamb for at least 2 hours or overnight to develop full spice flavor.
  • Leave space between lamb cubes on the skewers to allow heat circulation and better grilling.
  • Let grilled skewers rest a couple of minutes before serving to keep the meat juicy and tender.
