Cute Chocolate Apple Halloween Owl

Sliced Granny Smith apples dipped in melted semi-sweet chocolate are decorated creatively with Oreo cookies, candy corn, and candy eyeballs to resemble owls. Once set, these fun treats make a festive Halloween snack combining fresh fruit and chocolate with playful toppings.

Description

This recipe involves slicing apples vertically into thick pieces, removing seeds carefully, and inserting wooden sticks to hold each slice. Semi-sweet chocolate chips are melted, then used to coat each apple slice, with a spoon helping to cover larger pieces. Excess chocolate drips off before setting the slices on foil.

While the chocolate is still wet, Oreo cookie pieces are attached to form eyes and ears, candy corns serve as beaks, and candy eyeballs are glued on with small dots of chocolate. These decorations give the apple slices an owl appearance suitable for Halloween.

The coated slices are chilled in the refrigerator to allow the chocolate to harden, creating a firm chocolate shell over the crisp apple. These treats provide a combination of textures: fresh apple crunch, smooth chocolate, and crunchy cookie decorations. They can be served as a themed snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 apple I used Granny Smith
  • 1 bag chocolate chips 23 oz, semi-sweet
  • 8 wooden sticks 6-inch
  • 1 bag Oreo cookies standard-sized
  • 8 candy corns for the nose
  • Candy Eyeballs Wilton brand
  • ribbon pasta

Instructions

  1. Sit apples upright on a wood board and slice from top to bottom (about 4 slices per apple, ½-inch thick). Remove seeds gently. Then, line a large cookie sheet with aluminum foil and push the pointed end of each stick up into the bottom of each apple slice.
  2. In a medium glass bowl, melt chocolate chips in the microwave according to the package directions, place bowl into a larger bowl filled with about 2-inch boiling water (this will help chocolate to not harden), and dip apple slices in chocolate using a spoon to help cover each slice if your bowl isn't deep enough to cover them.
  3. Allow excess chocolate to drip off, then lay flat on the foil-lined baking sheet. Use the oreos to decorate both the eyes and ears of the owl and the candy corn for the nose while chocolate is still wet. Use a small dot of melted chocolate as a glue for the candy eyeballs.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the fridge for approximately 10-15 minutes, allowing chocolate to harden. If you wish, decorate the wood stick with a ribbon. Serve chocolate-apple Halloween owl and enjoy! Inactive Time: 10-15 minutes
