Dark Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Dark Chocolate Chunk Cookies have a rich flavor from browned butter paired with the bittersweet notes of chopped semi-sweet dark chocolate. The dough uses melted butter mixed with granulated and brown sugars, combined with flour, baking powder, and baking soda. These cookies bake to lightly golden edges with a tender, slightly chewy center, highlighting the deep chocolate flavor and a caramel-like undertone from the browned butter.

Description

These cookies begin with melting and browning the butter to develop a nutty aroma and caramel depth. The sugars and egg are mixed into this warm butter before stirring in the dry ingredients and finally folding in chopped semi-sweet dark chocolate. The batter is portioned by teaspoon onto baking sheets and baked at 350°F just until the edges get golden.

The result is a cookie with a crisp edge and a soft, tender center enriched by the nutty, toasty notes from the browned butter. The semi-sweet chocolate chunks add bursts of rich chocolate intensity without overwhelming sweetness. This cookie's texture is balanced between chewiness and a light crumb.

They are best enjoyed fresh and can be stored in an airtight container to maintain their delicate texture. These cookies suit those preferring chocolate-rich desserts with a subtle caramel depth from brown butter.

Servings
  • 1/2 cup butter melted or browned
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

  • 2 oz semi sweet dark chocolate chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment or silicone baking mat and set aside.

  3. Pour in sugar and brown sugar. Stir. Mix in egg and vanilla. Scrape sides and stir again. Pour in all dry ingredients and stir slowly. Scrape sides and mix again briefly.
  4. Stir in chocolate chunks and stir by hand.
  5. Scoop by the teaspoon into pans and bake 7-8 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges. Remove from oven, cool 5 minutes and transfer to cooling rack. Serve.
