Date Caramel Apple Slices

These Date Caramel Apple Slices combine crisp apple rings with a sweet date caramel spread, topped with toasted coconut flakes and drizzled with melted chocolate. The mix of textures — crisp apple, creamy caramel, crunchy coconut, and smooth chocolate — creates a balanced snack or dessert option. Using a melon baller to hollow the apple slices allows an even spread and a bite-sized presentation. This recipe offers a satisfying way to enjoy fresh fruit with indulgent toppings in a controlled portion.

Description

Date Caramel Apple Slices feature thinly sliced apples with the core hollowed out to form rings spread with rich date caramel. Toasted coconut flakes add a nutty crunch, while a drizzle of melted chocolate, softened with coconut oil, provides smooth richness. The method involves toasting the coconut carefully over low heat to enhance flavor without burning. The apple slices are sliced to about 1/4 inch thickness to offer a crisp base that supports the toppings without becoming soggy. Melting chocolate in short bursts prevents scorching and maintains a glossy finish. This combination results in a layered texture experience and a sweet, slightly tropical flavor from the coconut.

Serving these as a snack or at a casual gathering provides a natural sweetness complemented by the earthy date caramel and nutty coconut. The recipe only requires simple steps and common pantry ingredients, making it a versatile option for those wanting a fruit-based treat with a touch of indulgence.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 apple I love Honeycrisp, large
  • 2 Tablespoons date caramel
  • 2 Tablespoons coconut flakes unsweetened
  • 2 Tablespoons chocolate chips dairy-free, if needed
  • 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil

Instructions

  1. Prep date caramel if you haven't already.
  2. Toast coconut by putting it in a small pan or skillet over medium-low heat for 3-6 minutes. Be sure to stir continuously to prevent the coconut from burning.
  3. Cut apple into 1/4" slices. You should be able to get about 4 slices. Feel free to snack on the first slice and the last slice since those won't have a uniform shape.
  4. Use a melon baller to remove the core from the apples and make a little hole in the center of each slice. You can also use a spoon or an apple corer for this step, just be sure it's this type and not one that chops the apple into sections. Also! You can do this step first if you're using an apple corer.
  5. Use a knife to spread about 1/2 Tablespoon of date caramel on each apple ring. Sprinkle toasted coconut over each.
  6. In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted. Drizzle melted chocolate on apple slices and serve immediately or place in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes, just to let the chocolate harden.
