Instructions
Prepare
- Add enough oil to dutch oven (or other large heavy-bottomed pot) to be about 4-6 inches deep, and heat over MED heat to 375°F. I highly recommend a thermometer to make sure the oil is the right temperature. This is the one I use (amazon affiliate link).
- Line a baking sheet with a paper towel, then top with a wire cooling rack. Set aside, near the stove.
- Set a mixing bowl near the stove, and get out some bamboo skewers (or a frying spider/slotted spoon).
Make the batter
- To the mixing bowl, add baking mix, milk, 2 Tbsp vegetable oil, and egg. Whisk until combined, and no flour streaks remain. Some small lumps in the batter are okay.
Batter candy bars
- Gently insert a bamboo skewer into each of the candy bars, then coat the snickers in the batter (I find it's best to do this in batches of 6).
- Gently shake off the excess batter.
Fry
- When oil is hot and has come to 375°F, gently add several battered Snickers bars, being careful not to add too many as this will overcrowd the pan or else the oil temperature will drop too much, and they'll absorb too much oil.
- Feel free to use a utensil to keep the candy bars under the oil if they bob to the surface.
- Fry until the batter has turned a deep golden brown color. Remove to prepared wire cooling rack topped baking sheet, and repeat with any remaining snickers, working in batches.
Cool and serve
- Let fried snickers rest on the baking sheet for 5-10 minutes, then serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- This recipe will make 12 fried mini Snickers, which you're free to divide into as many servings as you'd like.
- Can be made using bite-sized or full-sized Snickers, or other candy bars.
- Exact amount of oil will vary from person to person, as the amount will change depending on the size of the pot used.
