Dr. Pepper BBQ Sloppy Joes

Dr. Pepper BBQ Sloppy Joes combine ground beef cooked with onions and bell peppers, simmered in a unique sauce featuring Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce, diced tomatoes, maraschino cherries, and beef broth. The mixture is spooned onto toasted brioche buns, creating a sweet, tangy, and savory sandwich with a sloppy joe texture. The cherries add an unexpected fruity note that balances the smoky barbecue flavors.

Description

This recipe begins by cooking ground beef with diced onion and green bell pepper, seasoned simply with kosher salt and black pepper to create a hearty base. The addition of diced tomatoes and chopped maraschino cherries introduces moisture and sweetness. The cherry juice enhances those flavors, complementing the Dr. Pepper brand BBQ sauce and Worcestershire sauce to create a rich, flavorful sauce.

Simmering the mixture until it thickens ensures a sloppy consistency that clings well to the warm toasted brioche buns. The buns provide a soft, slightly sweet contrast to the tangy meat filling. This take on sloppy joes adds complexity with the cherry elements and BBQ sauce, making it a distinctive choice for a casual sandwich meal.
