Easiest One Pot Lasagna
Description
This recipe starts by browning ground Italian sausage with garlic for a flavorful base. Adding marinara sauce, water, and Italian seasoning creates a simmering sauce in which broken lasagna noodles cook partially submerged, absorbing the sauce while softening. Stirring occasionally encourages even cooking and prevents sticking. Once noodles reach tenderness, dollops of ricotta cheese are added, then shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses are sprinkled on top and melted through to add creaminess and a golden finish.
Finished with fresh basil for optional herbaceous brightness, the lasagna is served directly from the skillet, combining flavors of seasoned sausage, tomato sauce, and rich cheeses. This approach offers a quicker alternative to traditional layered lasagna, ideal for when time or equipment is limited.
If using an oven-safe skillet, placing the pan under a broiler for a few minutes after adding cheese can brown the top, but this step should be watched closely to avoid burning.
Ingredients
- 8 lasagna noodles broken into 2-3 inch pieces
- 1 pound Italian sausage ground
- 1-2 teaspoons garlic minced
- 1 ounce marinara sauce jar
- 1 cup water
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
- ½ cup Parmesan Cheese shredded
- basil fresh, optional
Instructions
- In a large, 2-inch deep skillet over medium high heat, brown the sausage until fully cooked. Stir in garlic for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add marinara sauce, water, and Italian seasoning to the pan and stir to combine. Stir lasagna noodles into the sauce.
- Reduce heat to medium low heat (a high simmer). Cover and cook for 15 minutes, stirring every few minutes, or until lasagna noodles are tender.
- Drop spoonfuls of ricotta cheese over the noodles. Top with the mozzarella and parmesan cheeses. Cook 3-4 minutes longer until cheese is completely melted. Top with fresh basil if desired and serve.
Notes
- For a browned cheese topping, transfer the skillet to an oven-safe pan and broil for a few minutes after adding the cheeses, watching closely to avoid burning.
