Easy 10-Minute Caramel Sauce

This Easy 10-Minute Caramel Sauce blends butter, light brown sugar, salt, heavy cream, and vanilla into a smooth, rich topping. The sauce cooks gently, thickening as it boils to a silky consistency without stirring, delivering a perfect balance of sweet and creamy flavors. It's ideal for drizzling over desserts like ice cream, cakes, or fresh fruit.

Description

Easy 10-Minute Caramel Sauce combines salted butter, packed light brown sugar, a touch of salt, and heavy cream, slowly melting together on low heat. After the ingredients dissolve, the mixture is brought to a boil and cooked for ten minutes without stirring, developing a thick, glossy texture. Finally, vanilla is gently whisked in without scraping the sides to avoid graininess. This process results in a creamy caramel sauce with a smooth texture and balanced sweetness that enhances a variety of desserts and treats.

The method requires attention to the heat level to prevent burning, especially if the pan isn't heavy-bottomed. After cooling, the sauce can be refrigerated for several weeks and reheated gently when needed, making it a convenient addition to any kitchen.

This caramel sauce pairs well as a topping for ice cream, cakes, pies, or fresh fruit and can also be stirred into coffee or milkshakes for extra richness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ½ cup butter salted
  • 1 ½ cups light brown sugar packed
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, salt and cream. Melt over low heat while stirring slowly and gently. Once all ingredients are melted, increase the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a boil. Boil for 10 minutes without stirring. Watch the heat closely, if it seems as though the mixture might be burning on the bottom (which can often happen if you are using a pan that isn't heavy-bottomed), reduce the heat as needed.
  2. Remove the caramel sauce from the heat and carefully stir in the vanilla (stirring vigorously at this point and/or scraping down the sides can cause the caramel sauce to develop a grainy texture). Use immediately or let the sauce cool a bit before pouring into a container to refrigerate. The sauce can be refrigerated for several weeks.
