Easy 5-min. Strawberry Matcha Latte

This 5-minute Strawberry Matcha Latte blends muddled fresh strawberries and sugar with milk, ice, and frothy matcha. The combination balances fruity sweetness with the herbal bitterness of matcha, creating a refreshing chilled beverage with layered flavors and contrasting textures.

Description

The Easy 5-min. Strawberry Matcha Latte starts with pureed fresh strawberries mixed with granulated sugar to release their juice and sweetness. The berries are then combined with ice and milk to create a fruity, cool base. Separately, matcha powder is sifted and whisked vigorously with hot water to form a smooth, frothy green tea concentrate.

Pouring the frothy matcha over the milk and strawberry mixture adds a slightly bitter, earthy contrast to the sweet and creamy components, resulting in a visually appealing layered drink with a balance of flavors and temperatures. The ice keeps the beverage refreshing and chilled.

This recipe requires minimal equipment, and can be adapted by finely chopping or blending strawberries if a muddler is unavailable. The drink is intended to be enjoyed cold and fresh.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ¾ cup milk or plant-based milk
  • 4 medium strawberries with stems removed
  • 2.5 tablespoon granulated sugar or sub with honey or maple syrup, white
  • 1.5 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
  • 4 tablespoon water boiling hot
  • 8 ice cubes optional

Instructions

  1. In a tall glass, add strawberries and white granulated sugar and crush them with a muddler until they’re pureed. If you don’t have a muddler, finely chop or purée the strawberries in a blender and mix them in the glass with the sugar.
  2. Then add ice cubes on top of the puréed strawberries.
  3. Pour milk over the ice and set aside.
  4. Then sift matcha powder into a small bowl. Add hot boiling water to the matcha and whisk until frothy for 30 seconds.
  5. Pour the matcha liquid over the milk. Stir to enjoy!
