Easy Agua De Sandia (Watermelon Water)

Easy Agua De Sandia is a refreshing watermelon-based drink blended with a touch of water, sugar, and fresh lime juice for balance. The preparation carefully preserves the natural sweetness and freshness of watermelon, resulting in a light, hydrating beverage with a subtle citrus tang. Using mostly watermelon juice keeps the flavor vibrant without excessive dilution.

Description

The recipe involves blending diced fresh watermelon with a small amount of water to ease blending, then straining out any seeds if necessary. Sugar and fresh lime juice are added to brighten and balance the natural sweetness, with lime also giving a subtle acidic contrast. The drink is served chilled over ice, highlighting its fresh fruity character while remaining light and easy to sip.

The key to this recipe lies in minimizing added water to keep the juice’s intensity, ensuring that the calories remain moderate without compensating with too much sugar. The included lime juice adds freshness and prevents the sweetness from becoming cloying.

This Agua De Sandia is ideal for warm weather hydration and can be enjoyed as a simple homemade fruit beverage. It is best consumed within 1 to 2 days to maintain freshness. Optional garnishing with fresh watermelon pieces adds a pleasant touch for serving.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 cups watermelon seedless or with seeds, diced, fresh
  • 2 cups water see recipe notes
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp lime juice fresh, about half of a large lime

Instructions

  1. In a blender add 4 cups of the watermelon chunks with 1 cup of water. Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth. Transfer drink to a pitcher (see note)
  2. Note: If the watermelon has seeds, pass the juice thru fine mesh strainer to remove the blended seeds.
  3. Repeat process with remaining watermelon.
  4. Add the ½ cup sugar and lime juice to the pitcher. Mix well and taste for sweetness. Add more sugar according to taste.
  5. Pour into a tall glass filled with ice and garnish with fresh watermelon (optional). This drink is best if consumed within 1 to 2 days max.

Notes

  • Use seedless watermelon or strain the juice through a fine mesh to remove seeds after blending.
  • Limit added water to maintain strong watermelon flavor and reduce the need for extra sugar.
  • Adjust sugar to taste after mixing with lime juice for preferred sweetness balance.
  • Consume within 1 to 2 days for best freshness.
