Easy Apple Crisp

Easy Apple Crisp features tart Granny Smith apples covered with a cinnamon-spiced sugar mixture and topped with a crumbly streusel made from oats, brown sugar, flour, and cold butter. Baking creates a golden brown crust that contrasts with the soft, tender baked apples underneath. It is a classic dessert offering a warm, sweet-tart flavor and a satisfying crunchy topping.

Description

In this recipe, peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples are mixed with sugar, flour, salt, and cinnamon to form the filling. The sugar and cinnamon provide sweetness and spice while the flour helps thicken the juices released during baking. The filling is poured into a prepared baking dish.

The streusel topping is prepared separately by combining oats, brown sugar, flour, baking soda, and baking powder, then cutting in cold butter until crumbly. This mixture is pressed evenly over the apples. Baking at 350ºF for about 35 minutes results in a golden, crisp topping with tender, cooked apples beneath.

The dessert is traditionally served warm, complemented well by milk or ice cream which adds coolness and creaminess that contrasts with the crispiness and tartness of the apples. This simple yet classic preparation highlights the balance between crunchy topping and soft fruit.

The recipe notes that nutritional values are estimates based on nine servings. The use of Granny Smith apples offers tartness which balances the sugary topping well. This dessert can serve as a comforting seasonal treat.
