Ingredients
- 1 baguette
- 3 Tablespoons olive oil extra virgin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried herbs dill, parsley, oregano, rosemary
Instructions
Preheat Oven & Prepare the Topping
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- In a small bowl, mix the salt with the pepper and herbs.
Slice the Baguette
- Using a sharp serrated knife, slice the baguette into thin slices (about 1/8–1/4 inch thick). Uniform slices ensure even baking.
Brush the Slices
- Lay the baguette slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly brush each slice with the olive oil.
- Lightly sprinkle the prepared salt and herb mix over the oiled baguette slices.
Bake the Crackers
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for 10–12 minutes, then flip the slices over. Bake for another 8–10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
Cool
- Remove the crackers from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely for maximum crunch.
Serve or Store
- Serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
Notes
- Day old bread works great for making crostini. Your baking time may need less time in the oven because the bread will be a little more dryer than fresh bread.
- You can also use avocado oil or melted butter instead of olive oil, if that is your preference.
- Feel free to get creative with the herbs and spices you use in this recipe. Some popular options include rosemary, thyme, garlic powder, or even a sprinkle of chili flakes for some heat.
- For a cheesy twist, sprinkle some grated parmesan on top of the crackers before baking them.
