Easy Banana Cream Pie

Easy Banana Cream Pie layers sliced bananas over a baked, flaky pie crust, topped with vanilla pudding folded with whipped topping for smoothness. The chilled pie sets to a creamy, sweet texture that complements the fresh banana slices. For extra decoration, additional bananas and optional caramel or chocolate shavings can be added on top. It’s a classic cold dessert offering mild banana flavor and creamy sweetness over a crisp crust.

Description

The Easy Banana Cream Pie begins with a single baked pie crust that provides a lightly crisp base. The crust is pre-baked with parchment and pie weights to maintain shape and a golden finish. Over this, fresh banana slices are evenly arranged, offering a soft, fruity contrast to the crust.

A filling made from instant vanilla pudding mixed with cold milk is allowed to thicken, then folded together with half of the whipped topping to add lightness and creaminess. This mixture is spread over the banana layer, then chilled for several hours to set properly.

Before serving, the pie is topped with the remaining whipped topping and garnished with banana slices and optional caramel or chocolate shavings for additional flavor and visual appeal. This pie is best served chilled as a refreshing dessert. The notes also include a no-bake alternative crust made from graham crackers and butter, offering flexibility in preparation.

  • 2 banana plus extra for decorating
  • 2 cups milk cold
  • 2 boxes instant vanilla pudding mix 3.4 ounces each
  • 2 cups whipped topping such as Cool Whip, thawed and divided

Instructions

For the Pastry

  1. If making a pastry crust, preheat the oven to 425°F.
  2. Roll the pie crust into a 12-inch circle. Line a 9-inch pie plate with the pastry and fold the edges under. Crimp as desired. Poke the bottom of the crust with a fork.
  3. Cut an 11-inch circle of parchment paper and gently place in the pie crust and fill it with dried beans or pie weights. Bake for crust 15 minutes, remove the parchment and beans/weights and then bake for an additional 12 to 15 minutes or until golden. Cool completely.

For the Filling

  1. Slice the bananas and arrange over cooled pie crust.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk the vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until smooth. Let rest for 3 minutes to thicken. Fold in 1 cup of whipped topping.
  3. Spread the pudding mixture over the bananas. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  4. Top with remaining whipped topping and decorate with banana slices and caramel or chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

  • As an alternative crust, mix 6 tablespoons melted butter with 1½ cups graham cracker crumbs and ¼ cup sugar; press into a 9-inch pie plate and chill before filling.
