Easy Calzone Recipe

This Easy Calzone Recipe creates folded pizza pockets filled with a combination of pizza sauce, ricotta, mozzarella, pepperoni, and salami. The calzones are baked until golden with a crisp exterior, featuring a tender, cheesy, and slightly meaty filling. Brushed with oil and sprinkled with Parmesan, they offer a convenient hand-held meal or snack option.

Description

This Easy Calzone Recipe uses pizza dough rolled into circles filled with layered pizza sauce, ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, pepperoni, and salami. The dough is folded over and sealed around the edges, then vented and brushed with oil before baking. The Parmesan on top adds an extra cheesy crust flavor and the baking process at a high temperature yields a golden, crisp calzone exterior with a warm, gooey filling inside.

The combination of two types of cured meats with ricotta and mozzarella offers a balance of creamy and savory textures, while the pizza sauce adds moisture and acidity. These calzones bake in about 15 minutes making them suitable for a quick meal. Their individually portioned size offers versatility for lunch, dinner, or as a substantial snack.

They can be served on their own or alongside salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal. Cutting a small vent allows steam to escape and prevents the calzones from becoming soggy during baking.
