Easy Caramel Sauce
Description
This caramel sauce begins by combining granulated sugar, corn syrup, and water in a saucepan and heating the mixture to an amber hue, signaling caramelization of the sugars. Once the desired color is reached, the pan is removed from heat and heavy cream is carefully added while stirring to create a rich, creamy sauce. Butter adds silkiness, vanilla imparts aroma and complexity, and a pinch of salt balances sweetness. The result is a glossy, luscious caramel with a smooth consistency.
The sauce can be used to finish desserts such as ice cream sundaes, drizzled over cakes, or as a dip for fruit. It keeps well in the refrigerator and can be gently reheated to loosen if it thickens.
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 tablespoons corn syrup Karo
- 2 tablespoons water
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup & water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Allow mixture to boil until the liquid reaches an amber color (approx. 15 minutes… but keep a close eye on it starting at about 10 minutes).
- Once the mixture has reached a nice amber color, remove from heat. While stirring, slowly pour in cream. Stir in remaining ingredients and enjoy!
