Easy Cherry Bars

Easy Cherry Bars feature a buttery dough base and topping with a vibrant filling of cherry pie filling sandwiched in between. The dough is enriched with butter, sugar, eggs, and a hint of vanilla and almond extracts, baked to a golden brown. After cooling, a smooth glaze with confectioners' sugar and extracts is drizzled over the bars for added sweetness and moisture. The bars have a chewy-crisp crust with juicy cherry filling, making them a nostalgic dessert or snack.

Description

The Easy Cherry Bars start with a rich, soft dough composed of softened butter, sugar, eggs, and flavorings including vanilla and almond extracts. Flour is folded in to create a pliable dough that is pressed into a sheet pan. Cherry pie filling is spread evenly on top, providing a sweet, fruity center, and the rest of the dough is dropped in small spoonfuls over the cherries to create a textured topping.

The bars bake until the crust turns golden brown and the filling becomes bubbly. Once cooled completely, a glaze mixing confectioners' sugar with vanilla, almond extracts, and milk is drizzled over, adding a smooth sweetness and slight moisture contrast to the crisp, chewy crust and tart cherry filling.

This treat can be cut into squares for easy serving and is appropriate for potlucks, casual desserts, or afternoon snacks. The use of canned pie filling simplifies preparation while delivering seasonal cherry flavor year-round.
