Easy Chocolate Hummus

This chocolate hummus blends chickpeas with almond butter, cocoa powder, maple syrup, and dark chocolate to create a smooth, creamy spread with mild sweetness and rich cocoa flavor. The chickpeas provide a soft base while almond butter and dark chocolate add depth and smoothness. It’s a unique alternative to traditional hummus, suitable as a dessert dip or snack accompaniment.

Description

Easy Chocolate Hummus uses cooked chickpeas combined with almond butter, milk, maple syrup, and cocoa powder, processed together until silky smooth. Adding grated dark chocolate enhances the chocolate richness and texture. Vanilla extract or cinnamon can be optional flavor enhancers.

The hummus has a creamy, slightly thick consistency that can be thinned with more milk if desired. Sweetness is adjustable with maple syrup to taste. The use of almond butter contributes a nutty undertone without overpowering the chocolate essence.

This spread works well paired with fruit, crackers, or spreading on toast as a dessert or snack. It offers a way to incorporate chickpeas into sweet dishes with a chocolate twist.

Removing chickpea skins is optional and may yield a smoother hummus but requires extra prep.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 400 g chickpeas rinsed and drained, with the skins off if preferred, cooked, canned, 14 oz
  • 2 tbsp almond butter
  • 120 ml milk extra 3-4 tbsp if using a blender, 1/2 cup
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or more to your taste
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional, or 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • salt
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 40 g dark chocolate if you want a smoother hummus then grate chocolate, chopped small, 1.5 oz

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients through to the cocoa powder into a high-powered food processor or blender and whiz for a minute. (If using a blender, you will need to add an extra 3-4 tbsp milk to get the blender going.)
  2. Then add in the chocolate pieces and blend into the consistency you desire.
  3. If you want your hummus less thick then add in a bit more milk.

Notes

  • Peeling chickpeas can make the hummus smoother but is optional and time-consuming.
  • Add extra milk gradually if using a blender to help with blending and achieve desired consistency.
  • Adjust maple syrup to your preferred sweetness level.
