Easy Cream Cheese Danish

This Easy Cream Cheese Danish is made by layering softened cream cheese sweetened with sugar, vanilla, and flour onto unrolled crescent roll dough. The dough edges are cut and folded over the filling in a braided pattern before baking until golden and the filling sets. A simple icing of powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla is drizzled over the cooled Danish for added sweetness and moisture.

Description

The recipe begins by preparing a smooth cream cheese filling mixed with sugar, vanilla extract, and a small amount of flour for structure. The crescent roll dough is opened and laid out in rectangles aligned width-wise, pressed together to seal any gaps. The cream cheese filling is spread in a central strip about 2 to 3 inches wide.

Diagonal 1/2-inch strips are cut on each side of the filling and alternately folded over the center in a braid-like pattern, enclosing the filling partially. Any excess dough is folded in at the end to contain the filling. Baking at 375°F until the dough is golden and the filling is set yields a tender, flaky pastry with a creamy interior.

An icing made by mixing powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream is added after the Danish cools, giving a smooth sweetness that complements the tangy cream cheese. This Danish is suitable as a sweet breakfast pastry or dessert and uses accessible ingredients.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 tube crescent rolls
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

for the icing-

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 + tablespoons heavy cream
  • plash vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F. In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, flour and vanilla extract. Set aside.
  2. Pop open crescent roll dough and unroll, leaving crescents in rectangles. On an ungreased baking sheet, lay the crescent roll rectangles together, lining them up width wise. Dough should be almost the entire length of a half sheet pan. Press edges together to even out edges and seal any holes.
  3. Carefully spread cream cheese filling down the center of the dough to be about 2-3 inches wide. Cut 1/2 inch diagonal strips up each side of the dough. Fold 1/2 inch dough pieces up over filling alternating sides to get a braided pattern. You may have excess dough once you reach the end of the danish, so fold them in as best as you can.
  4. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until filling is set and crescent dough is golden in color. Cool before removing from baking sheet to a serving platter.

for the icing-

  1. In a small bowl, mix together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream to create icing. You may need to add more cream to get the desired consistency.
  2. Drizzle the icing over danish. Slice and serve.
