Easy Crockpot Meatball Subs Recipe

Report
Easy Crockpot Meatball Subs combine homemade beef meatballs cooked slowly in a seasoned tomato sauce, served on hoagie buns with melted mozzarella cheese. The slow cooking infuses the meatballs with rich flavors and results in tender meatballs immersed in a savory sauce. This recipe is convenient and produces sandwich fillings that are juicy and flavorful.

Description

This recipe mixes ground beef with breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to form meatballs. Browning the meatballs before adding them to a crockpot helps to develop a crust and deeper flavor. The meatballs then cook slowly in crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, and optional fresh parsley, allowing the flavors to meld and the meat to become tender.

The tomato sauce softens as it simmers, soaking into the meatballs and providing a warm, comforting base. The subs are assembled by placing three meatballs on a hoagie bun, spooning over sauce, and topping with sliced mozzarella cheese that melts from the heat of the meatballs and sauce.

This dish provides a hearty sandwich appropriate for casual meals or gatherings. The slow cooker method offers the practicality of set-it-and-forget-it preparation while delivering consistent results.

For quicker preparation, frozen meatballs can be substituted, reducing the time needed to assemble the meal.

Ingredients

Servings

For the Meatballs:

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 2 teaspoons garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Sauce:

  • 2 crushed tomatoes 24 oz, in cans
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup parsley optional, chopped, fresh

For the Sandwiches:

  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese sliced
  • hoagie buns

Instructions

  1. Add beef, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, Italian Seasoning, and salt and pepper in a large bowl. Mix with your hands until combined.
  2. Form into 1 or 2 inch meatballs. I made 20, but you could easily make 24. Brown each meatball in a skillet or in your Ninja crock pot. Then place in the crock pot.
  3. Pour the 2 cans of crushed tomatoes over the Meatballs. Add to the crock pot the Italian seasoning, salt and pepper, and fresh parsley.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours.
  5. Place 3 meatballs on a hoagie bun. Spoon over the hoagie bun and top with the mozzarella cheese and enjoy!

Notes

  • Using frozen meatballs is a convenient shortcut, saving preparation time without compromising flavor.
