  • 1 cup white lentil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 tablespoon neutral cooking oil generic cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 3 tablespoon masala paste
  • Coriander leaves

Instructions

Boil the white lentil

  1. Thoroughly wash the lentil until the water come out clean. (at least 4 -5 times)
  2. Pour the lentil into the cooker, and add water, salt, pepper, turmeric and garam masala. Cook until one whistle only.

Tempering

  1. Heat oil in a frying pan . Add cumin seeds and turn them aromatic.
  2. Add masala paste. (previously made with onions, tomatoes, ginger and garlic) Stir fry for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Pour in the boiled white lentil and combine well with the masala paste.
  4. Cook it for 5 minutes on low heat.
  5. Dry white lentil is ready to serve

Notes

  • Wash lentils multiple times until water runs clear to remove starch.
  • Cook lentils just until one whistle to avoid mushy texture.
  • Prepare masala paste with onions, tomatoes, ginger, and garlic in advance for convenience.
  • Serve as a dry spicy lentil side with rice or flatbreads.
