Easy Eggnog Milkshake (Copycat McDonald’s)
Description
This eggnog milkshake recipe uses vanilla ice cream and full-fat eggnog as its base, sweetened and flavored with fresh grated nutmeg and vanilla extract. The mixture is blended until smooth but not overblended to maintain creaminess. The shake offers a cold, thick texture balanced by warm spice notes from the nutmeg and sweet vanilla undertones.
It is served in a tall glass and often topped with whipped cream and additional grated nutmeg. Optional garnishes such as wafer cookies, cinnamon sticks, peppermint sticks, or vanilla wafers provide extra visual and flavor appeal. This recipe mimics the flavors of a classic McDonald’s eggnog shake.
Variations include using dairy-free ice cream and plant-based eggnog for a vegan version, or adding a shot of bourbon, brandy, or Bailey's Irish Cream for a boozy twist. Chocolate versions can be made by substituting chocolate ice cream or adding cocoa powder. Leftovers can be refrigerated as a liquid or frozen for up to three days and thawed and re-blended for improved consistency.
Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups vanilla ice cream vanilla bean, French vanilla or favorite dairy-free ice cream
- ¾ cup eggnog I used full-fat, but use your favorite or plant-based eggnog
- ¾ teaspoon nutmeg we love fresh grated nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Garnish
- Whipped Cream
- nutmeg extra
- cookie wafers or alternatives
- cinnamon sticks
- peppermint sticks
- vanilla wafers
Instructions
- In a blender, add the vanilla ice cream, eggnog, nutmeg and vanilla extract (try my bourbon vanilla extract, yum!).
- Blend together until completely combined, but don’t overblend.
- Pour into a tall glass, topping with whipped cream and a sprinkle of fresh grated nutmeg.
- To make it more special add a wafer cookie straw, or a cherry to the top.
Notes
- Use plant-based eggnog and dairy-free ice cream to make a vegan version.
- Add a shot of bourbon, brandy, or Bailey's Irish Cream for an adult beverage variation.
- Chocolate versions can be made with chocolate ice cream or added cocoa powder.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator as a liquid for best texture or freeze for up to three days, thaw and re-blend before serving.
- For a thicker shake reduce eggnog to ½ cup.
- Top with whipped cream and garnishes such as wafer cookies, cinnamon sticks, or maraschino cherries.
