Easy Flatbread Pizza
Description
Easy Flatbread Pizza combines a sticky dough made with self-raising flour, baking powder, and natural yogurt, kneaded and rolled out to create a flatbread base that cooks quickly in a hot pan. The cooking step puffs it up slightly, providing a tender yet slightly crisp texture. The topping is a simple blend of tomato puree and barbecue sauce, spread before adding grated cheese, then baked briefly to melt the cheese and meld flavors.
The flavor balances tangy tomato and smoky barbecue with rich melted cheese on a soft flatbread crust. The cooking method limits the time necessary, requiring precooked toppings for meats and hard vegetables, while softer veggies can be used raw. This approach creates a speedy flatbread pizza adaptable to personal tastes.
These flatbread pizzas can be served hot out of the oven, suitable for casual meals or snacks. The dough can be flavored further with garlic or Italian herbs, as suggested in the notes, to customize the taste. Double batches are easily made by scaling ingredients.
The sticky dough benefits from gradual flour additions for easier handling. Using precooked toppings is key because of the short baking time. Softer vegetables like peppers and mushrooms can be added raw.
Ingredients
- 250 g self-raising flour
- 0.5 tablespoon baking powder
- 250 g natural yogurt 0%
- 6 tablespoon tomato puree
- 12 tablespoon barbecue sauce
- 120 g cheese grated
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C/180°C(fan)/400°F/Gas 6.
- Add 250 g 0% natural yogurt and 0.5 tablespoon Baking powder to 250 g Self-raising flour and mix well in a bowl until it forms a sticky dough.
- Tip it out onto a floured worktop and knead and roll out to about 8 inches. You may need to add a little more flour if it is too sticky.
- Put the flatbreads in a hot pan (no oil needed) and cook for 3-4 minutes each side until puffed up.
- Mix together 6 tablespoon Tomato puree and 12 tablespoon Barbecue sauce.
- Add the sauce and any toppings and sprinkle over 120 g Cheese.
- Put into the oven for 5 minutes until the cheese melts.
Notes
- The dough will be sticky due to yogurt; add flour gradually for easier handling.
- Precook any meat or hard vegetables like broccoli and carrot before adding as toppings.
- Softer vegetables such as peppers and mushrooms can be added raw.
- You can double the recipe by doubling all ingredients.
- For extra flavor, add crushed garlic and Italian seasoning to the dough before cooking.
