Easy Fried Apples Recipe
Description
This recipe starts by peeling, coring, and slicing Granny Smith apples evenly. The apples soften over low heat in butter while covered, which allows them to cook gently without burning. After they become tender, a mix of granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt is added. The apples then simmer with the sugars until the mixture turns syrupy, coating the fruit slices.
The resulting dish highlights the natural tartness of the apples balanced by the sweetness and warm spices. The butter adds richness and a glossy finish. Fried apples can be served on their own as a comforting side or placed atop scoops of vanilla ice cream for a simple dessert.
The recipe excludes the optional ice cream from its nutrition information, indicating the apples alone are the core of the dish. They work well for autumn treats or whenever you want a lightly spiced cooked apple dish.
