Easy Grapefruit Paloma Spritzer Mocktail
Description
This mocktail recipe balances grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed for the best citrus flavor, with ginger beer's natural spice and effervescence, enhanced by lime juice that adds brightness and a bit of acidity. The glass can be rimmed with sugar to add a touch of sweetness that contrasts with the tart grapefruit. Garnishes such as lime wedges, grapefruit slices, or fresh rosemary sprigs add visual appeal and subtle aroma.
The drink assembles easily by preparing the glass rim first, then mixing the citrus juice and ginger beer over ice. The cold temperature and carbonation provide a crisp, refreshing texture making it suitable for warm weather or festive occasions.
This spritzer serves well individually or by the pitcher for a small group, with proportions adjustable to the glass size or personal preference, allowing more ginger beer for a spicier bite or extra grapefruit juice for citrus emphasis.
Ingredients
- 3 ounces grapefruit juice freshed squeezed is best
- 3 ounces ginger beer
- 1/4 medium lime use to wet rim for sugar and squeeze into glass
- ice crushed or cubed
Optional
- sugar for rimming glasses
- 1 lime wheel or wedge for garnish
- grapefruit slice for garnish
- rosemary for garnish, fresh
Instructions
- Pour some granulated sugar on a small plate, sweeping a wedge of lime around the rim of the glass. Turn the glass upside down and place it on the plate of sugar to coat the rim of the glass, giving it a few light swirls to get plenty of sugar. Set aside.
- Juice the grapefruit, removing any seeds.
- Using the same lime wedge you used to wet the rim, squeeze the rest of it into the glass.
- Add ice, grapefruit juice, and ginger beer. Garnish with fresh lime and/or fresh rosemary and a half wheel of fresh grapefruit if desired.
Notes
- To serve multiple people, prepare in a pitcher using equal parts grapefruit juice and ginger beer, adjusting quantities to taste.
- Use fresh grapefruit juice for the best flavor; a hand juicer helps extract juice without seeds.
- Sugaring the rim enhances the contrast between tartness and sweetness in the drink.
- Adjust the ginger beer and grapefruit juice ratio according to your preference for spice or citrus intensity.
