Easy Homemade Chow Mein

Easy Homemade Chow Mein is a stir-fried noodle dish combining garlic, ginger, fresh vegetables like carrot, Napa cabbage, and bean sprouts with cooked chow mein noodles. The savory sauce made from chicken broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil blends into the stir-fry, resulting in a mildly sauced, balanced-texture dish with fresh toppings including green onions and sesame seeds.

Description

This chow mein uses a simple but flavorful sauce of chicken broth, low sodium soy and oyster sauces, toasted sesame oil, and cornstarch as a thickening agent. The stir-fry process begins by cooking garlic and ginger for aroma, then adding sliced carrots and cabbage for a slightly tender texture. Bean sprouts and cooked noodles are added with the sauce and quickly stir-fried to integrate flavors and warm through.

The resulting dish has a mix of tender-crisp vegetables and chewy noodles coated in a savory sauce with mild undertones from the garlic and sesame oil. Green onions and sesame seeds sprinkled on top add freshness and nuttiness respectively.

This chow mein can be served as a main or side dish and works well paired with protein or as a vegetarian-friendly meal. It is suitable for quick weeknight dinners or whenever a classic stir-fried noodle dish is desired.
