Easy Homemade Vegan Pizza Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil or 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1 red onion small or half of a large, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic peeled and minced
  • 24 ounces strained tomatoes I use Pomi brand
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning dried
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • sea salt ground, to taste
  • black pepper ground, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium sauce pan heat the oil or water on medium heat. Add the onions and stir to distribute evenly in the pan. Cook for approximately five minutes, stirring frequently, until the onions begin to caramelize. Add the garlic and stir. Cook for two minutes. Add the strained tomatoes, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and pepper and stir to combine. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a low simmer and cook for twenty minutes. Stir frequently so the sauce doesn’t scorch.
  2. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze for up to a month.
  3. Enjoy!

  • Store in a closed container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. 
  • Freeze in a freezer safe container for up to 2 months.
