Easy Matcha Mug Cake
Description
The Easy Matcha Mug Cake starts with whisking together egg yolk, granulated sugar, avocado oil, milk, and vanilla extract for a smooth base. Sifted matcha powder, cake flour, and baking powder are folded in to provide the distinctive flavor and leavening. Microwaving for about 60 to 90 seconds sets the cake, giving it a soft crumb with a hint of earthy matcha flavor that is not overpowering.
Cooling briefly before serving allows the texture to stabilize, making the cake pleasant to eat straight from the mug. You can add a topping like whipped cream, powdered sugar, or fruit for additional sweetness or presentation without complicating the quick preparation.
This mug cake suits moments when you want a little dessert quickly, without fuss or leftover cake. Its ingredients are simple and can be adapted for vegan or dairy-free substitutes if needed.
Ingredients
- 1 egg no egg white, yolk
- 2 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoon avocado oil or butter
- 1 tablespoon milk whole
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon matcha green tea powder sifted
- 4 tablespoon cake flour sifted
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
Instructions
- In a microwave-safe mug, lightly whisk together the egg yolk, sugar, oil, milk, and vanilla extract. (I used a pair of chopsticks to do this).
- Sift in the matcha powder, cake flour, and baking powder.
- Mix until everything is combined.
- Place the mug into the microwave and cook for approximately 60-90 seconds (depending on your microwave's power), or heat until cake is set in the middle.
- Cool for 2-3 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with whipped cream, powdered sugar, or fruit if you wish.
- Best enjoyed right away.
