Easy Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Fudge

This easy old-fashioned peanut butter fudge combines brown sugar, butter, milk, and creamy peanut butter into a rich, smooth confection. The confection sets to a firm, sliceable fudge with a dense, creamy texture and classic peanut flavor elevated by vanilla. Its preparation involves boiling the sugar mixture briefly before mixing in peanut butter and powdered sugar, creating a firm but tender sweet treat that can be cut into squares.

Description

Easy Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Fudge is a classic confection made by boiling brown sugar, butter, and milk, then blending in peanut butter, vanilla, and sifted powdered sugar. The boiling step dissolves the sugar and melds the flavors before the mixture cools to a smooth, firm fudge. The powdered sugar is beaten in to remove lumps, ensuring a creamy consistency when set. This method produces a dense, rich peanut butter fudge with a melt-in-your-mouth texture.

The fudge should be poured into a prepared pan and allowed to set at room temperature for about three hours until firm. Once cooled, it can be sliced into squares for serving. The buttered lining of the pan aids in easy removal.

Store the fudge wrapped in cling film at room temperature for up to one week or refrigerate for up to two weeks. For longer storage, freezing wrapped fudge for up to two months is possible, with thawing recommended before serving.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cups brown sugar packed
  • ¾ cup milk whole
  • ½ cup butter salted
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar sifted to break up clumps

Instructions

  1. Line an 8x8-inch pan with parchment paper or an aluminum foil sling for easy removal. If using aluminum foil, be sure to butter it so the fudge will come off easily.
  2. Combine brown sugar, milk, and butter in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook while stirring frequently until the brown sugar and butter dissolve and the mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Boil for 2 minutes, then remove from heat.
  4. Stir the peanut butter and vanilla extract into the mixture until smooth and well combined.
  5. Add the powdered sugar to a large bowl, then pour the hot peanut butter mixture over it.
  6. Beat together with a hand mixer until combined and there are no lumps of powdered sugar remaining.
  7. Transfer the fudge to the prepared pan, and let it set at room temperature for about 3 hours.
  8. Allow it to cool completely before slicing it into squares.

Notes

  • Store the fudge wrapped in cling film in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or refrigerated up to two weeks.
  • For extended storage, wrap cooled fudge well in plastic wrap, then foil, and freeze for up to two months.
  • Thaw frozen fudge in the refrigerator or at room temperature before serving.
