Easy Peppermint Fudge Recipe

This Easy Peppermint Fudge is made with layered dark and white chocolate mixed with sweetened condensed milk, enhanced with vanilla and peppermint extracts, and finished with peppermint sprinkles or crushed candy canes for crunch. The fudge combines a smooth, creamy texture with a refreshing mint flavor, making it an attractive treat during holidays or any time of year. It requires gentle melting, careful layering, and simple chilling, offering a festive sweet with both chocolate depth and peppermint brightness.

Description

The Easy Peppermint Fudge Recipe features two layers: a dark chocolate base mixed with sweetened condensed milk and peppermint extract, and a top layer of white chocolate combined similarly. Each layer is melted carefully in the microwave and spread in a baking pan lined with parchment to allow for easy removal. The peppermint extract and peppermint sprinkles or crushed candy canes give this fudge a distinctive mint flavor and crunchy texture. The fudge needs to chill until firm before cutting. The method includes detailed temperature control to melt chocolate without burning.

The fudge has a dense, creamy consistency balanced by the crisp peppermint topping. The dual chocolate layers add visual appeal and flavor contrast between the deep cocoa notes and the sweet, milky white chocolate.

This peppermint fudge is suitable for gift-giving or festive dessert tables where a mint chocolate treat is appreciated. Its make-ahead quality means it can be prepared in advance and stored chilled until ready to serve.

Double the recipe for larger batches using a larger pan. Alternatively, chocolate can be melted using a double boiler to prevent overheating and maintain smoothness. The fudge should be stored in a cool place to keep its texture intact.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips
  • 1 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/3-1/2 cup peppermint sprinkles or about 5 candy canes, crushed up, crunch

Instructions

  1. Line an 8x8" baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the sides (for easy fudge removal).

HEAT CHOCOLATE/SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK

  1. Set microwave to half power (or medium), then add dark chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then microwave again for another 20 seconds.
  2. Pour in half of the can of sweetened condensed milk and stir. Microwave in 15 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until chocolate mixture is completely melted and smooth.

ADD EXTRACT/SPREAD IN PAN

  1. Stir peppermint extract into the dark chocolate mixture, then pour into prepared pan and spread into an even layer. Set aside while you work on the next layer.

REPEAT WITH WHITE CHOCOLATE

  1. Set microwave to half power (or medium), then add white chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl.

  1. Stir vanilla extract into the white chocolate mixture, then pour into prepared pan on top of the dark chocolate, and spread into an even layer.

TOP AND CHILL

  1. Sprinkle peppermint sprinkles over the top of the white chocolate layer, then cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until fudge is set.

SLICE AND SERVE/STORE

  1. Lift fudge out of the pan using the parchment paper overhang, then slice into as many squares/pieces as desired.
  2. Serve or store at room temperature for 1 week, or refrigerated for up to 3 weeks.

Notes

  • You can double the recipe and use a 9x13-inch pan for a larger batch.
  • Chocolate can be melted safely using the double boiler method to avoid burning or seizing.
  • To double boiler, use a heatproof bowl resting on a pan of low-simmering water, stirring frequently until smooth.
