Description
Easy Peri Peri Chicken Breasts (Nando’s Copycat) uses a marinade combining chili flakes, smoked paprika, garlic, oregano, lime juice, salt, and olive oil to infuse chicken breasts with bright, smoky, and mildly spicy flavors. The lime juice adds acidity that tenderizes the meat as it marinates, usually for at least 2 hours or up to 24 hours for deeper flavor.
Cooking the marinated chicken on a hot griddle or frying pan develops a nicely browned exterior while keeping the centers juicy. The recipe suggests cooking each side for 7–9 minutes depending on thickness. Alternative methods include oven baking, grilling (broiling), or barbecue cooking to reach the same results.
This peri peri chicken can be paired with Nando’s style sides or other accompaniments that complement its herbal and spicy character. It works well as a main protein for lunch or dinner with salads, rice, or grilled vegetables.

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons chili flakes or to taste
- 4 cloves garlic crushed or grated
- lime juice juice of 2 limes
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- black pepper to taste
- 4 chicken breast large, boneless, skinless
Instructions
- Mix together all of the Peri Peri marinade ingredients (i.e. all the ingredients apart from the actual chicken!) in a large bowl. Place the chicken in the bowl, turning to coat each piece of chicken with marinade. (You can do this in a ziplock bag if you don’t like getting your hands messy!)
- Cover and marinate the chicken for 2 hours in the fridge or up to 24 hours if you have the time. Alternatively, just continue with the recipe.
- Heat your griddle/frying pan for 2 minutes over a high heat (see notes for alternative cooking methods). Place the chicken in the pan and cook for 7-9 minutes on each side (depending on thickness – you can check if your chicken is done by cutting into the thickest one – if it’s not raw and pink, you are good to go!).
- Serve with all your favourite Nando’s style sides!
Notes
- Marinate the chicken for at least 2 hours or up to 24 hours in the fridge to deepen the flavor.
- To bake, cook in a 200°C oven for 25-30 minutes until fully cooked.
- Grill or barbecue cooking should also cook chicken 7-9 minutes per side until no longer pink inside.
- Check the thickest piece for doneness by cutting to ensure no raw meat remains.
