Easy Raspberry Halloween Mummy Pies

Easy Raspberry Halloween Mummy Pies use ready-rolled puff pastry cut into rectangles filled with raspberry jam and topped with decorative pastry strips to resemble mummies. These baked pastries become golden and flaky, with sweet fruit filling inside. They can be served warm or cold, making them a fun seasonal treat especially around Halloween. Optional edible eyes add a playful finishing touch.

Description

This recipe creates small hand pies that resemble mummies by layering puff pastry over raspberry jam filling. The pastry is cut into rectangles, spread with jam, and then decorated with thin pastry strips arranged to mimic mummy wrappings. Baking at 375°F turns the pastry crisp and golden while heating the raspberry jam to a warm, spreadable consistency.

The combination results in a flaky, buttery crust with a sweet, fruity interior. Brushing milk on top encourages a golden finish. They can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature. Edible eyes can be added after baking for a whimsical Halloween look.

These pies make for festive snacks or dessert and are easy to prepare using store-bought puff pastry. The recipe also allows substitutions like vegan or gluten-free milk alternatives and switching to raspberry compote instead of jam for a different texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 30 oz puff pastry 2 x 375g/15oz package), ready rolled
  • 6 tablespoons raspberry jam or strawberry
  • 3 tablespoons milk for brushing, or vegan milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F/190°C. Line a baking sheet with baking parchment paper (or use the parchment from the pastry packet)
  2. Unroll the pastry (or roll it out) and cut one sheet into 6 equal-sized squares, then cut each square in half to make 12 rectangles.
  3. Cut the other sheet of pastry into thin strips.
  4. Spoon the raspberry jam or sauce onto the rectangles, avoiding the outer edge.
  5. Add dough strips decoratively to look like mummies, and gently press the edges to seal.
  6. Brush with the milk and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden. Serve warm or cold and decorate with edible eyes.

Notes

  • Use non-dairy milk if you need a vegan option and check pastry ingredients for gluten-free versions if required.
  • You can substitute raspberry jam with raspberry compote for a slightly different texture and flavor.
  • If desired, decorate the pies with edible eyes after baking to enhance the mummy appearance.
