Easy Skillet Garlic Green Beans Recipe
Description
This recipe uses a skillet to cook green beans over medium-high heat, starting with olive oil to create a light blister on the beans for texture and a subtle roasted taste. Thinly sliced garlic is added for a mild garlic aroma that complements the beans. Adding vegetable broth and covering the skillet steams the beans, softening them without losing their bright color or fresh snap.
The method balances sautéing and simmering to achieve tender green beans that remain vibrant and flavorful. Seasoning with salt and black pepper at the end provides a clean, straightforward taste that lets the vegetable and garlic shine. Optional variations include using frozen green beans with adjusted broth and cooking time.
As a side, these green beans pair well with many main dishes, adding a lightly garlicky, fresh vegetable component. The technique suits cooks seeking a quick way to prepare green beans with simple pantry ingredients.
For stronger garlic flavor, increase garlic cloves to four. When using frozen beans, sauté first and reduce broth quantity and cooking duration accordingly to prevent overcooking.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoon olive oil
- 2 garlic clove see note 1, thinly sliced
- 1 lb Green bean see note 2 for frozen, fresh, ends trimmed
- ¾ cup vegetable broth
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Place a large non-stick skillet over a medium-high heat and add in the olive oil.
- Once it starts to shimmer add in the trimmed green beans and cook for 4 minutes, stirring often, until the beans start to blister and char.
- Add in the sliced garlic then pour over and the vegetable stock.
- Bring back to a simmer then cover and cook for 6-8 minutes (depending on the thickness of your beans)
- Remove the lid and evaporate any remaining liquid
- Season generously with salt and pepper then serve immediately.
Notes
- Use four garlic cloves instead of two for a more pronounced garlic flavor.
- When using frozen green beans, sauté them for 4-5 minutes, then add only one-third cup of vegetable broth and cook for an additional 3 minutes to prevent overcooking.
