Easy Spring Roll Wrappers

These Easy Spring Roll Wrappers are thin, supple rounds made simply from flour, water, and salt. The batter is spread thinly on a hot pan and cooked briefly until opaque, then cooled to form delicate skins ideal for wrapping fresh or fried spring rolls. Their pliable texture makes them versatile for various fillings.

Description

The recipe combines all-purpose flour with water and salt to create a smooth batter, which is strained to remove lumps. Using a non-stick pan heated over the lowest flame, the batter is brushed thinly into rounds and cooked just until it turns white. The thin skins are carefully removed and cooled to prevent sticking. Wrappers are covered or stored airtight to maintain their softness.

These homemade wrappers provide a fresh alternative to store-bought versions and can be used immediately for fresh rolls or fried spring rolls. Their delicate texture adapts well to different fillings and cooking methods, offering a customizable base for Asian-style appetizers or snacks.

To keep the wrappers from drying out, cover them with a cloth or store in an airtight container once cooked. The slow cooking over low heat ensures gentle setting without browning.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 200 g all-purpose flour
  • 300 ml water + 20ml more if necessary
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Mix salt and all purpose flour and then pour in water. Keep stir until well combined.
  2. Strain the batter to remove any lumps.
  3. Prepare a non-stick pan and a small brush. Heat your pan over slowest fire and then quickly brush the batter on the pan to form a round skin. Slightly turn up the fire and heat the skin until white. Tear off and cool down aside.
  4. Clean the pan with a wet cloth and then repeat the process until all the batter is finished.
  5. The wrapper should be coved with a cloth or place in air-tight container to avoid softening back

Notes

  • Cook wrappers over the slowest flame for best delicate texture without browning.
  • Cover finished wrappers with a cloth or store in an airtight container to keep them pliable.
  • Use the wrappers soon after cooking for optimal freshness before they start to soften again.
