Easy Strawberry Jam Recipe

Easy Strawberry Jam is made by cooking fresh strawberries with sugar and lemon until thickened to a spreadable consistency. The lemon juice and halves contribute natural pectin to help set the jam while balancing sweetness. The process involves boiling and simmering the fruit mixture before testing the set to achieve the right texture. The recipe yields several jars of homemade jam with a bright strawberry flavor.

Description

This strawberry jam recipe begins by selecting fresh, healthy strawberries, washing, and cutting them into small pieces. The berries are combined with sugar and lemon juice in a pot, then brought to a boil and simmered for 30 minutes or longer until the mixture thickens and reaches the desired set.

Blending with a hand blender creates a smooth consistency. The jam is tested for setting by checking the temperature or by a cooled plate test where a drop of jam that does not run indicates readiness. The hot jam is then poured into sterilized jars, sealed quickly, and turned upside down to kill germs and ensure preservation.

The jam serves as a sweet spread for toast, baking, or desserts. Using organic, untreated fruit and lemons helps avoid pesticide residues, especially when including lemon halves to maximize pectin content. The recipe produces around 3 jars and recommends not reducing sugar to ensure proper gelling and preservation.

Instructions

  1. Wash your Strawberries well and pick out the ones that are getting moldy and spoiled. Only keep healthy fruits. Cut off the stem and cut your strawberries small.
  2. Place the Strawberries into the jam cooking pot. Add the sugar, lemon juice and the squeezed out lemon halves.
  3. Place on the heat, mix and slowly bring to a rolling boil.
  4. Reduce the heat and leave your jam to simmer over 30 and more minutes or until set
  5. When you think it's set, blend with a hand blender to a smooth consistency.
  6. Test setting temperature with the candy thermometer: 220 Fahrenheit/ 105 Celsius.OR test by dropping the hot jam into a frozen plate and if it's not running, it's set. If it's running leave it to simmer further. Read up all the details in the post to get it right.
  7. Keep your clean sterilized jam jars ready and fill up with the still hot jam up to the rim. Drop some vodka or rum into the clean lids to kill any germs left.
  8. Close the filled jam jar with the lid well and quickly turn upside down to create a vacuum. Leave the jar that way until the next day. Then label with jam name and date.
  9. Store in a cool and dry place. Store in the fridge once opened.

Notes

  • Use fresh, organic, untreated strawberries for best flavor and safety.
  • Do not reduce the sugar quantity to ensure proper setting and preservation.
  • Include lemon juice and the squeezed lemon halves to utilize natural pectin for better jam set.
  • If using lemon halves in the jam, use organic untreated lemons due to pesticide residue concerns.
  • This recipe yields about three jam jars, serving approximately 70 teaspoons.
  • Use quality sterilized glass jars and proper jam-making equipment for safe storage.
