Easy Stromboli Recipe
Description
Easy Stromboli is made by rolling refrigerated pizza dough into a rectangle on a baking sheet and layering slices of provolone, shaved ham, large pepperoni slices, hard salami, and mozzarella cheese. A mixture of melted butter and garlic salt is brushed over half before layering and again on top prior to baking. Four diagonal slits are cut on the top to release steam during baking.
The stromboli is baked at 400 °F until the crust is golden brown and bubbling with melted cheese inside, yielding a crispy exterior and a rich, meaty, cheesy filling. Resting before slicing allows the filling to settle for easier cutting and eating.
Typically served sliced, the stromboli pairs well with marinara sauce or ranch dressing for dipping. It offers a convenient way to enjoy a variety of Italian meats and cheeses in one portable, warm dish.
Notes suggest covering with foil if browning too fast, sprinkling fresh parsley or pepper flakes for garnish, substituting meats or cheeses as preferred, or brushing the crust with beaten egg for a darker color.
Ingredients
- 1 can pizza dough refrigerated
- 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 10 lices provolone cheese
- 8 lices ham shaved
- 10 lices pepperoni large
- 10 lices hard salami
- 6 lices mozzarella cheese
- marinara sauce for dipping, or ranch dressing
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and prepare the 9x13 (or larger) baking sheet with nonstick spray.
- Roll out pizza dough on the baking sheet. Gently push out toward edges till the dough is a rectangle shape.
- In a small bowl mix melted butter with garlic salt until combined.
- Brush half of the butter mixture evenly over pizza dough.
- Layer meat and cheeses in order listed onto dough, slightly overlapping each piece, ending with Mozzarella slices. Leave a 1 inch edge of dough around the meat and cheese.
- Along the long edge gently begin rolling dough into a log, careful not to tear the dough. Pinch the edges together to seal the dough.
- Brush remaining butter mixture across top of dough and sprinkle with extra garlic salt, if desired.
- Make 4 diagonal slits on top of dough to let the steam escape.
- Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let the stromboli rest for 5 minutes. Slice, serve with sauces and enjoy!
Notes
- Cover with foil if the stromboli browns too fast while baking to prevent burning.
- Top with chopped fresh parsley and red pepper flakes before serving for added flavor.
- Feel free to substitute any preferred meat and cheese combinations inside the stromboli.
- For a darker crust, brush the dough with a beaten egg prior to baking.
