Ingredients
- ½ cup turbinado sugar
- 2 tbsp dried lavender blossoms
- ½ cup butter
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a cookie sheet and set aside.
- In a food processor mix the turbinado sugar and the lavender blossoms until the lavender is finely ground.
- In a bowl cream the butter and the turbinado sugar. Add in the vanilla and salt. Mix in the flour and knead until you have a thick dough.
- Form small balls of the dough with the help of the palms of your hands and lightly press them down. Place on the cookie sheet and take to the oven.
- Bake for 12 minutes or until lightly golden on the edges.
- Take out of the oven and let them cool for 10 minutes.
Notes
- What is Turbinado Sugar?
- Turbinado sugar is also commonly referred to as raw sugar. It comes from the first pressing of sugar cane and keeps more of the plant’s flavor and natural molasses forming crystals that are coarser, darker and less-processed. It has a slightly rich, molasses flavor.
- Can I Use Another Sugar in Place Of It?
- The turbinado sugar adds a great texture and flavor to the cookie so I wouldn’t recommend using a substitute. But in a pinch you could use the same amount of light brown sugar in the place of turbinado sugar. Brown sugar is more refined and has a slightly higher molasses content so it may change the cookie’s taste.
- Can You Eat Lavender?
- Yes! It has become a popular ingredient in cakes and baked goods. I use a culinary grade lavender. The lavender adds a fragrant aroma to your recipes. If this is your first time cooking with lavender, remember that a little goes a long way!
- Where Do You Find Dried Lavender?
- I find my dried lavender on Amazon. You can also find dried lavender in most organic grocery stores, farmer’s markets and spice shops. The key words to look for when buying lavender are “culinary grade”, “organic” or “for baking” to ensure the right product.
- If you are using lavender from the garden and drying it yourself, make sure that it hasn’t been treated with chemicals.
- When Do You Serve Lavender Cookies?
- This lavender cookies recipe was perfect for a bridal shower but they are a great dessert idea for a fun brunch, a baby shower or a girl’s night!
- You can even make them and eat them all yourself, but keep in mind that they also make an AMAZING gift. Buy a pretty little box or use a clear bag and they would be the perfect present for a special teacher at the end of this school year.
