Edible Cookie Dough

Edible Cookie Dough offers a safe-to-eat treat made by toasting all-purpose flour to eliminate risks, then mixing it with butter, sugars, and mini chocolate chips. The result is a soft, sweet dough with a classic cookie flavor but without baking, perfect for snacking or dessert without needing an oven.

Description

Edible Cookie Dough combines softened unsalted butter with both brown and granulated sugars creamed until fluffy, then mixed with half-and-half, vanilla, toasted all-purpose flour, and salt. Mini chocolate chips fold in to provide bursts of chocolate throughout. Toasting the flour in the oven ensures it's safe to eat raw. This dough has a rich, creamy texture from the butter and dairy, balanced by the sweetness of sugars and chocolate bits. It's intended to be eaten as-is, providing the flavor and consistency of cookie dough without baking.

The dough can be consumed immediately for a soft texture or refrigerated to firm up, which will solidify the butter and harden the dough; letting it return to room temperature softens it again. This versatile treat can be served directly in bowls or formed for creative presentations.

Because this recipe uses raw flour and no eggs, it is safe to eat without cooking once the flour is properly toasted. Careful toasting to about 160°F takes about 5 to 8 minutes in a 350°F oven, resulting in a safe and flavorful base.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup butter at soft room temperature, unsalted
  • ½ cup light brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons half-and-half or use cream or milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract pure
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • cup chocolate chips mini

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. Spread flour evenly on a large rimmed pan. Place in preheated oven until lightly toasty and temperature reaches 160° F when tested with an instant-read thermometer, about 5 to 8 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes. Mix in half & half and vanilla until combined. Reduce speed to low and then mix in flour and salt. With a spatula or wooden spoon, fold in chocolate chips.
  3. Cookie dough can be consumed immediately (when the texture is utter perfection!). Or place in an airtight container and refrigerate for later. Just know that the butter will solidify in the refrigerator and harden the cookie dough - simply let it rest at room temperature to soften.

Notes

  • Toast the flour fully to at least 160°F to make it safe for eating raw.
  • You can enjoy the dough immediately or refrigerate it; refrigerating will firm it up, so let it soften at room temperature before serving.
  • This recipe excludes eggs, avoiding food safety concerns related to raw eggs.
  • Store the dough in an airtight container in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
