Description
The Edible Cookie Dough starts with careful heat treatment of all-purpose flour to remove any harmful bacteria. Softened salted butter is beaten with brown and white sugar to create a creamy base. Milk and vanilla extract add moisture and flavor before gradually mixing in the cooled flour to build a classic cookie dough texture that is safe for raw consumption. Mini chocolate chips are folded in last to provide bursts of chocolate throughout the dough.
This dough is designed solely to be eaten raw and not baked. Its texture is soft and scoopable with a balanced sweetness from the sugars and vanilla. The heat-treated flour ensures food safety without affecting the traditional taste associated with cookie dough flavors.
It can be customized by adding other mix-ins in place of chocolate chips. For safety, always fully cool treated flour before mixing with butter to prevent melting and preserve the dough's structure.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour see note
- ½ cup butter softened, salted
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk or cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Cook and cool flour per the notes below.
- Beat butter with a hand mixer until fluffy. Add brown and white sugar and continue beating until combined.
- Mix in milk and vanilla. Add flour a little bit at a time until incorporated and the dough reaches desired consistency. You may not need all of it.
- Fold in chocolate chips and enjoy!
Notes
- If using unsalted butter, add a pinch of salt to balance flavors.
- Replace chocolate chips with other add-ins as desired for variety.
- Heat treat flour by baking at 350°F for 5 minutes or microwaving until reaching 165°F to ensure safety.
- Let treated flour cool completely before mixing to prevent butter from melting.
