Edible Sugar Cookie Dough

Edible Sugar Cookie Dough is a safe-to-eat sweet dough made by heat treating the flour to eliminate risks and combining it with butter, sugar, vanilla, and milk to create a creamy mixture resembling cookie dough. This edible version has a smooth texture and vanilla sweetness, allowing safe indulgence without baking. It can be eaten as is or used as a topping or mix-in for desserts and snacks.

Description

This recipe features a safe edible version of sugar cookie dough that omits raw eggs and uses heat-treated flour to prevent foodborne illness. The dough is made by creaming room temperature unsalted butter with caster sugar until light and fluffy, then adding vanilla extract for aroma. Heat-treated flour is sifted in and mixed until incorporated, initially creating a dry, clumpy mixture. Milk is then added to achieve a smoother, creamy consistency suitable for eating raw.

Because it lacks eggs and baking soda or powder, this dough is not meant for baking but rather for enjoying the nostalgic flavor and texture of cookie dough safely. The combination of butter and sugar gives a rich and sweet flavor while the vanilla enhances the classic sugar cookie taste.

This edible dough can be served on its own for spooning or incorporated into other desserts, providing a versatile treat for those who enjoy the taste of raw cookie dough.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 cup flour heat treated
  • 6 tablespoon butter room temperature, unsalted
  • cup caster sugar or superfine granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoon milk whole

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla and beat to combine.
  2. Sift the heat treated flour into the butter mixture. Beat until incorporated. This will be a very dry and clumpy mixture at this stage - not together in a smooth batter.
  3. Add the milk and beat until smooth and creamy.
