Egg Roll Wrappers

Egg Roll Wrappers are thin, round sheets made from a delicate batter of flour, egg, water, and salt, cooked briefly on a non-stick pan to create pliable, tender skins ideal for wrapping fillings. The wrappers have a soft texture that crisps nicely when fried or baked, serving as a blank canvas for savory ingredients.

Description

This recipe for Egg Roll Wrappers prepares a smooth, lump-free batter by mixing all-purpose flour, egg, salt, and water, then straining to ensure even texture. Cooking on a very low flame with quick brushing creates thin layers that set to white, tender rounds. Cooling the wrappers maintains pliability for wrapping.

The method requires cleaning the pan between each wrapper using a wet cloth to prevent sticking or flavor carryover. The finished wrappers are soft and thin, suitable for filling with vegetables, meat, or other mixtures and frying or baking to a crisp finish.

Proper storage involves covering wrappers with a cloth or placing them in an airtight container to prevent drying out and retain their texture until use.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 200 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg whipped, large
  • 1 cup water you may need extra 20ml if necessary depending on the batter, + 2 tbsp
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

Make the batter

  1. Mix salt, egg liquid and all purpose flour and then pour in water. Keep stir until well combined.
  2. Strain the batter to remove any lumps.

Brush out the wrapper

  1. Prepare a non-stick pan and a small brush. Heat your pan over slowest fire and then quickly brush the batter on the pan to form a round skin. Slightly turn up the fire and heat the skin until white. Tear off and cool down aside.
  2. Clean the pan with a wet cloth and then repeat the process until all the batter is finished.

How to Keep the wrappers

  1. The wrapper should be coved with a cloth or place in air-tight container to avoid softening back

Notes

  • Keep finished wrappers covered with a damp cloth or in an airtight container to prevent them from drying out and becoming brittle.
  • Adjust the water quantity slightly (up to 20 ml more) if batter consistency is too thick to spread thinly.
  • Use a very low heat setting and a small brush to achieve thin, even wrappers that cook without browning.
  • Clean the pan with a wet cloth between wrappers for consistent texture and to avoid burning residue.
  • Each wrapper is calculated to estimate nutrition, useful for portion control.
