Espresso Jello Shots

Espresso Jello Shots are layered gelatin treats combining the flavors of brewed coffee and milk, sweetened with sugar. Two gelatin mixtures are prepared—one coffee-flavored and one milk-based—and chilled in alternated layers until set. The result is a playful, firm-textured dessert with a distinctive coffee taste balanced by a creamy milk layer.

Description

This recipe uses brewed coffee and milk as bases for two separate gelatin mixtures sweetened with sugar. Gelatin is dissolved separately for each mixture using cold water, then combined with the hot sweetened liquid. Once each mixture is prepared, they are layered incrementally in small glass cups, refrigerating between additions to allow each layer to set firmly. The alternating layers create a visually appealing and texturally interesting dessert that highlights the robust flavor of coffee mellowed by the creamy milk layers. The shots should be kept refrigerated and served cold for the best texture and flavor experience.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups brewed coffee
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 bags gelatin
  • 8 tbsp water cold

Instructions

  1. For the coffee gelatin, combine 3 gelatin bags with 4 tablespoons of cold water in a small bowl. Set the bowl aside and allow the gelatin to dissolve.
  2. If the coffee is cold, reheat it in a saucepan and add in 1/2 cup of sugar. Stir it in until dissolved and add in the gelatin to the mixture.
  3. For the milk jello, combine the other 3 bags of gelatin with the remaining 4 tablespoons of cold water. Set the bowl aside and allow the gelatin to dissolve. In the meantime, bring the milk and 1/2 cup of sugar to boil over low heat, stirring constantly until it's dissolved. Remove the mixture from heat and add in the gelatin mixture until well-combined.
  4. In small glass cups, pour in a thin layer of either the coffee or milk gelatin (you can start with whichever one you like. Refrigerate the layer until the jello firms up. Next, pour on another layer of gelatin and refrigerate until firm. Repeat until your cups are full.
  5. Keep the jello shots refrigerated until you're ready to serve them. Enjoy!
