European Plum Pie Recipe

This European Plum Pie features a tender sour cream-infused dough crust enveloping halved plums layered tightly and sprinkled with sugar. The pie bakes at a high temperature to create a golden crust with a moist, fruity filling that balances sweet and tart plum flavors. The simple dough and fresh fruit make for a rustic, home-style dessert.

Description

The European Plum Pie Recipe starts with a dough made from unsalted butter, sugar, baking powder, salt, sour cream, and flour combined to an elastic consistency. The dough is divided into two parts: one larger for the bottom crust and one smaller for the top. The bottom crust is rolled out and pressed into a round pan with edges rising up the sides.

Fresh plums are halved and tightly arranged cut side down over the bottom crust, then sprinkled generously with sugar for sweetness and caramelization. The second dough ball is rolled out and draped over the fruit, with edges pinched together to seal the pie.

Baking at 400°F for about 25 minutes develops a golden, flaky crust while cooking the plums to a tender, juicy filling. This pie is a classic European-style dessert highlighting seasonal plums and a rich, tender crust.
