Everything Bagel Crusted Salmon
Description
To make Everything Bagel Crusted Salmon, skin-on salmon fillets are patted dry, lightly seasoned, then pressed on the flesh side into the everything bagel seasoning mix. The crust adheres to the fish. The fillets first cook in olive oil skin-side down until crisp, then are transferred to a preheated oven to finish cooking gently. Optionally, flipping the salmon to crisp the crust side further enhances texture.
The final salmon has a golden-spiced crust with a tender, moist center. The seasoning blend combines sesame, poppy seeds, garlic, and onion flavors, imparting a distinctive taste different from typical salmon seasonings.
This dish is suitable for a simple dinner served with fresh arugula or other light greens. Variations include cooking solely on the stovetop, baking, or air frying for convenience. Leftovers store well refrigerated and reheat best in an oven or air fryer to preserve crispness.
Ingredients
- 4 (6oz) salmon skin on, fillets
- ¼ cup everything bagel seasoning
- 2 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and spread the everything but the bagel seasoning onto a plate.
- Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels and lightly season with salt and pepper. Then, press the flesh side of the salmon fillets into the everything spice to create a crust. Avoid getting the seasoning on the skin side.
- Place an oven-safe saute pan onto the stovetop and heat olive oil to medium-high. When the oil is hot, place the crusted salmon fillets skin-side down into the pan and cook for for 3 minutes. Then turn off the heat and transfer the pan to the oven. Bake for 5 - 8 min, until the salmonis cooked to your preferred doneness. Carefully remove the pan from the oven and place an oven mit or dish rag over the handle when you place it down, so no one grabs the oven-hot handle!
- For extra crispiness, feel free to turn the stove back on to medium and flip the salmon, so the crusted side is face down. Cook for 1 extra minute to crispen the seasoning.
- Serve with fresh arugula or Greek salad and tzatziki. Enjoy!
Notes
- If you prefer not to use the oven, cook the salmon skin side down on medium-high for 3–4 minutes, then reduce heat to medium and cook for 3 more minutes before flipping to crisp the crust side for another 3 minutes.
- You can also cook the crusted salmon in an air fryer at 380°F for 8–12 minutes without flipping; check at 6 minutes for doneness.
- Store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Reheat leftovers in an air fryer at 350°F for 3–5 minutes or in an oven/toaster oven at 350°F for 5–8 minutes for best crispness; microwaving may soften the crust.
